NICENE CREED
A Human-Made Doctrine That Replaced the Pure Monotheism of Jesus
The Quran honors Jesus as a righteous messenger who preached the worship of God alone. However, the belief system followed by many Christians today comes from doctrines formulated centuries after Jesus, especially the Nicene Creed of 325 CE. This creed represents human theological development rather than the original message of Jesus, who was sent to the Children of Israel and brought the Gospel.
Jesus’ Original Message: Worship God Alone
The Quran presents Jesus as a messenger, servant, and prophet—not divine, not the literal son of God, and not part of a trinity. His message was the same as that of all prophets: “Worship God, my Lord and your Lord.” (Quran 5:72)
Jesus never taught the doctrines later enshrined in the Nicene Creed.
A Shift Toward Paul’s Teachings
Historically, the theology embraced by most Christians today reflects the influence of Paul of Tarsus rather than the teachings of Jesus himself. Paul introduced concepts Jesus never preached, such as salvation through belief in Jesus’ death, leading to a shift away from the original Gospel.
The Nicene Creed: A Voted Doctrine
In 325 CE, the Roman emperor Constantine convened the Council of Nicaea, where bishops debated and voted on doctrines about Jesus’ nature. The resulting Nicene Creed declared:
• Jesus is “God from God.”
• Jesus is “begotten, not made.”
• Jesus is “of one substance with the Father.”
These concepts were not part of Jesus’ teachings—they were human formulations made long after his time.
Why the Nicene Creed Conflicts With Monotheism
The creed elevates Jesus to divine status, contradicting the pure monotheism Jesus preached. The Quran emphasizes that God is One, God has no partners, and Jesus was a human messenger. By redefining Jesus as divine, the creed created a theological structure the Quran identifies as a false god.
Jesus’ True Mission
Jesus was sent specifically to the Children of Israel (3:49). He confirmed the Torah and delivered the Gospel. He did not establish a new religion, nor did he preach the doctrines later adopted at Nicaea. The Quran restores his true status as a messenger of God.
Why This Matters Under False Gods
The Nicene Creed marks the point where human beings redefined God and elevated a messenger to divine status. This page is not a critique of Christians, but a clarification of the Quranic view: reverence for Jesus does not mean worshiping him. When human theology competes with divine revelation, it becomes a false god.
Conclusion
The Nicene Creed is a historical document, not revelation. It reflects human debate and decision-making, not the teachings of Jesus. The Quran calls people back to the pure monotheism of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: the worship of God alone. Jesus brought the Gospel; humans later created the Creed. The difference is between God’s religion and human doctrine.
